DJ Chris Galvin
A DJ since before it was cool to be one, Chris Galvin’s been rocking parties since he was 15 and swapping Dr. Dre mixtapes at high school. Having graduated from the hip-hop scene with honor and skills intact, Galvin was at the forefront of America’s first wave of house and techno, playing to thousands of people alongside peers like Aldo Bender, Doc Martin, Buck and DJ Dan. That soon led to Chris' own club outings playing with the likes of Jason Bentley, The Orb, Orbital, The Chemical Brothers, Gus Gus, The Prodigy and guesting at Raymond Roker’s influential Science night in Hollywood.
Chris also produced tracks under various names for several labels, including React/Drop Music, and has written articles for many publications.
During the mid ’90s, Chris took a quick break from DJing to pursue his more geeky interests, namely attaining his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. But it wasn’t long before he was back, rocking a refreshing mix of west coast tech house at San Diego's hottest house night, Lipgloss, sharing residency duties with rising stars Hipp-E and Halo.
In the meantime, Chris started f4music, a record label devoted to forward-thinking house. F4’s third release was from London producer, Alex Moran (The Weekender). Ashley Beedle, Inland Knights, Lee Burridge, David Duriez, Kenny Hawkes, and Silicon Soul hammered the track. The track also debuted #1 in DJ Magazine’s Hype Chart and received a 10 out of 10.
These days, Chris’ schedule is non-stop. By day he runs the label, or drops breakbeat bombs (under his DJ Helix guise) as one of the official DJ's of the ESPN X-Games, Freak Fest Tours and a plethora of other events. The nights are filled with weekly appearances, a monthly residency at Fit! in San Francisco, a residency at the legendary Livin’-Room Club, Germany and a yearly World tour that sees him packing clubs from Bangkok to London to Cologne to Zagreb to Sydney. When he's not doing that, he’s usually off surfing some exotic reefbreak to decompress.
The bottom line is when the bassline’s rolling, the kick drum's massaging your ribs and the girls in the short skirts are dancing with huge grins from ear to ear, then you can be sure that Chris is back there, doing his job. You get the feeling he loves his work.
